Introduction

In this guide, I will be showing you how yo can install CentOS 7 Minimal from scratch. The image I will be using for this can be downloaded from here.
Prerequisites

In order to follow this tutorial, you will need the following

  • Virtual Machine/Desktop

  • Installation Media with CentOS 7 on e.g. Bootable CD/USB

  • Testing the media & installing

If you are using this device for the first time, it is a good idea to select the option to test the installation media. If you have used this before, just click install.

After this, you will eventually get to this screen. From here, you can just select the appropriate language and click continue.

The next screen will allow you to configure your system.

    Installation Destination

The only thing you are required to configure is the Installation Destination. When clicking this, it should open the following window.

You can go through and change how things are partitioned if you would like but I shall be leaving these as they are. When you are happy with everything, click done.
    Network & Host Name

You may now have an option to configure the network adapter. The first thing you should do is enable it.

If you are planning to do anything special with your installation, it is probably a good idea to configure a static IP Address. You can do this by clicking the configure button. In the new window that pops up, you should go to the IPv4 tab, change your method to manual and then add the address you would like to setup.

After confirming any changes, its also a good idea to set yourself up with a hostname. You can do this using the box at the bottom.

When you are happy with your changes, click done.
    Begin the Installation

If you are happy with everything and would like to install CentOS, click Begin Installation.

    User Accounts

While the installation is happening, you are given the option to set your root password and to add a new user.

You should click on the root password option and then type in your password of choice. You can click done once you have entered your password. If you need to add any other users, click the Create User option.

On this page, you can select if you would like that user to become an admin. If you would like to setup non standard home directories or groups etc, click the advanced button.
When you have done all of that, click done. You can now just wait for the installation to complete.

After the installation is complete, you can click the blue reboot button and you are finished!
